Satisfying Your Soul

Often as we (have) to grow up, we begin to lose the things that made us feel alive as a child with barely a care in the world. Adulthood piles on more responsibilities and expectations, not just from ourselves, but from the people around us. Β Its easy to fall victim to a lack of motivation as we begin to settle into a routine that requires too much energy to break.

But something got me thinking, what if it’s not about age, or feeling energetic, what if its more about feeling satisfied. The older we get, and the more we learn about life, the more we want from it. And because of that, satisfaction with your life simply get’s harder and harder to achieve. Of course, satisfaction is not as easy as snapping your fingers, its finding a way to be happy with the kind of life youΒ chooseΒ to lead.

I believe there is a balance between acceptance and satisfaction. You can’t have everything in life, but you can do your best to make things happen that benefit your life.

This has been an absolute favourite quote of mine for a long time, but as much as I’ve wanted to hang it up or make a phone wallpaper out of it, I’ve never felt like I lived up to the quote. I was never one to take control of situations I did not like, and try to change them or compromise.

As silly as this may sound, I want to hang this quote up, and not in some years time, I want to do is as soon as I can. And part of why I started this post is because I have started to do small things that make me feel more deserving of this quote, and I want to tell you that you can too. Trust me when I say, it does not take a lot, you just have to want it. You don’t have to do it because of a quote of course, its just how I’ve chosen to motivate myself, but you can find other things that motivate you.

For example, I’ve started running at the beach again, something I’ve wanted to do all of last year but never got around to it because I was always finding excuses. You don’t have to start big, start small, find satisfaction in the little things. They don’t have to be perfect to others, they just have to be perfect to you.

Its not about finding things that only give you joy, its about finding things that give you more than joy, things that bring you satisfaction and make you feel a little more whole, and a little more proud of yourself everyday.
